Social network type and well-being in Korean rural Elderly

Abstract
This study aims to identify the social network types of elders and to identify differences among latent classes by social network and examining the relationship between the social network type and well-being of the elderly living in rural area. Data from the first wave of ¡¸Korean Social Life, Health and Aging Project(KSHAP)¡¹ data was used for analyzing 814 elderly over 60 and their spouse. The results showed that social network type of elderly were divided into four groups which were isolated, extroverted, moderated, family focused type. There were differ in social network type by elderly`s general characteristics. Women, elderly who were older, elderly who had no job, elderly who had lower education level, elderly who had lower income were more parted of isolated group than their counterpart. In the meantime, elderly`s well-being level were difference depending on the social network type. Isolated type were the worst health state, the lowest cognitive function, the lowest life satisfaction, the highest depressive symptom. On the contrary, extroverted type were the best health state, the highest cognitive function, the highest life satisfaction, the lowest depressive symptom.
